The practice

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing method and spiritual practice. It is understood to have its own consciousness, and I act as a channel, allowing the energy to flow where it is needed most.

For me, body and emotion are inseparable. Reiki invites us to turn inward, reconnect with ourselves, and allow what we carry to be felt. You may experience a deep sense of calm, emotions gently surfacing, or a softening of tension.

Whether you approach Reiki spiritually or simply as a space to reconnect with yourself, each experience is unique.

The five precepts

I live by these, in my life and in my practice.

Your session

How a session unfolds

  1. Arrival

We begin with a consultation: an unhurried conversation about how you are and anything you wish to share. You may set an intention if you like. Then you lie down on the treatment table, fully clothed, supported by soft pillows and wrapped in a blanket if you wish.

  2. Treatment

My hands rest lightly on your body or hover just above it, and a session can be entirely hands-off. There is no set sequence. I settle into mushin, a quiet, meditative state, and let Reiki guide my hands. I use Reiki symbols and sometimes mantras, and work mostly in silence.

If emotion arises, we can pause, talk, or simply stay with it for as long as you need.

  3. What you may feel

    • The weight of my hands, warmth, tingling or a flowing current
    • Deep rest, drifting between waking and dreaming, or sleep
    • Very little, which is completely fine

    Every session is different.

  4. Coming back

We leave time to return slowly, and you open your eyes when you are ready. You can share what you noticed, or keep it to yourself. Afterwards most people who come to see me notice a clearer mind, a sense of spaciousness and more presence in the body.

Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal. First sessions are 90 minutes, to leave time for the consultation and a little extra to settle afterwards. Follow-ups are 60 minutes, or 90 if you need extra time. View sessions and fees

Research on Reiki

Reiki is classed in research as a biofield therapy. It is offered as a complementary therapy in hospitals and cancer centres worldwide, including some NHS trusts. The evidence in people is growing but still limited.
